#Square Must Have Instagram App For Google Play

instagram-logoIt’s really a shock to me how shitty the built-in cropping feature for Instagram is. Nothing is more upsetting than taking a great photo or finding one to put into the app, only to find out that there is no way you can make it fit right with the built in features. I would probably have 200 more posts on there if it wasn’t for that.

I almost completely gave up on even using the Instagram App,  but decided to take a quick look online and found an app on Google Play called #Square. It’s a very simple app that puts a boarder around the images so that they fit into Instagram. You can also zoom in and out within the App if needed to help even further.

Instagram just NOW adds Video? But you still can’t upload videos from other places, but only ones you take from your mobile device or have taken on your mobile device in the past. Come on Facebook you have the budget to be way more ahead of the game then that….

Hoping the new App by the YouTube developers called MixBit destroys Instagram on video soon :). MixBit is already out for Apple, but you can subscribe to updates on their website https://mixbit.com for the release of the Google Play app that will be out in the next couple months.

Work Efficiency, The Human Brain, and Goals

We all tend to have our routines to work more efficiently. Whether it’s turning the phone off, closing emails, closing social media, keeping the desk uncluttered, or the many other ways to help keep ourselves focused.

Personally, I prefer to have my desk setup in a corner or facing a wall with absolutely nothing on the wall. I try to keep the desk completely clean, so that if something is near me it’s work that needs to be done. I also try to keep anything in my peripherals at a minimum.

All of us have a certain number of attention units (albeit we do have a lot though!). If you are facing a window or even have your desk facing away from the wall, then your brain now has to process all of that data outside that could be better spent focusing on the task at hand. Let’s take a quick look at some brain stats!

The human brain

  • Contains approximately 100 billion neurons
  • Each neuron is capable of 1,000 connections
  • Each can fire 200 times per second
  • The brain can process 20,000,000,000,000,000 bits of information per second

These are all estimations and from a little research, it seems there is a lot we still don’t know about the human brain. I don’t know about you, but I want as much of those bits firing as possible when I’m working. Logically it makes more since that the less my senses are firing off due to my surroundings, the more focus I will have on the project in front of me.

If you set up a laptop outside then there is a lot more information that has to be processed. Our eyes are very interesting in that way too. Our  eyes are capable of seeing different ranges of distances depending on certain factors.  Height is, of course, one these factors.  You will be able to see further into the distance from the top of a mountain or from the ground looking at a mountain in the distance, opposed to being out at sea trying to find land horizontally. If it’s night our eyes are capable of seeing the Andromeda Galaxy which is over 2 million light years away from Earth.

Now that we are using our brains more efficiently we have to set goals (ARRGGGGGHHHHHH).

Having daily to-do lists are great, but IDEALLY it would go more like:

  • Daily Goals
  • Weekly Goals
  • Monthly Goals
  • Quarterly Goals
  • Annual goals
  • Half decade
  • Decade
goals and tasks
My Photoshop skills are improving as you can see…

Unfortunately I don’t usually make it past the month mark due to my paranoia and premonitions of Cthulhu rising from the sea and tearing us all to pieces (hello sarcasm!).

You can also graph your work. There are pre-built templates and ways to do this in Excel. It takes a little while to set up, but once it’s set up you can graph your progress daily, weekly, monthly, and so on. Whenever your graph goes down, you make necessary changes to get it to go back up.

This can also tie into vision boards. By setting goals further out in the future we can envision them coming true. This is why it’s recommended to have a physical pin board (not Pinterest or virtual one) that you see throughout the day. Whether that’s an illustration of your business in the future with 100 employees in a giant building, a new house, and/or anything else you want to come to fruition.

You can also take these steps before creating a Mission and Vision statement for your company. Since vision statements are years into the future, it would be easier to create one after taking some time to see what your future goals are first.

Now back to completing all of these TPS reports.

What do you do to keep yourself focused and work more efficiently? Share in the comments below!

Some Pictures Around The Ranch!

Earlier I needed to stretch my legs a bit and decided to walk around the ranch to take some pictures with the Galaxy Note 2 (I love this phone). I’m not a professional photographer so I know they could be better or cropped but none-the-less take a look!
